The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. PAL Inc. and The New York City Police Department work in partnership to provide communities with summer and after-school recreational and educational activities.
We are looking fora part-time teacher who will be responsible for providing positive learning experiences for PAL participants through lessons, games, and activities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Model and uphold all Agency rules.
Create an environment conducive to the environment. Create a structured environment and system for homework time.
Work with the Center Director, Education Specialist and Education Department to implement PAL s curriculum and assess children s progress.
Provide individual and small group tutoring.
Facilitate age-appropriate enrichment lessons in an out-of-school setting. Work with the Education Specialist to develop activities.
Meet with parents to discuss their child s academic progress or difficulties as well as behavioral issues that may affect learning.
Assist in planning and facilitating Parent Workshops focusing on helping youth succeed academically.
Present ideas and suggestions for improving programs as often as possible. When presenting a problem or offering constructive criticism, also offer an alternative solution.
Supervise youth workers and volunteers while in the classroom.
Build positive relationships with youth and adults and serve as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, and behavior.
Create stimulating lessons or games that enhance grade-appropriate learning.
Support the Group Leader in-group management and when available, in leading recreational activities.
Observe and document children who appear to have weaknesses in academic areas.
Submit weekly, monthly, written and verbal reports as requested.
When directed, attend meetings with staff, parents, volunteers and community residents as needed to assist in program delivery and promotion of programs.
Interact with parents and keep open lines of communication to better understand and manage the academic success of the children.
Assist in the planning, set up and cleanup for PAL special events.
A minimum of a Bachelor s Degree and NYS Teaching Certification. A Master s in Education preferred.
Must possess strong classroom management skills.
Must demonstrate the ability to develop lesson plans.
Must be responsible and organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be a team player.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Fluency in Spanish a plus.
