Job Description

The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms around the world. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities. Nationally and internationally, the Center performs original research and provides consulting services to justice innovators.

The Center operates four Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) sites, two in the South Bronx and two in Brooklyn. S.O.S. is a replication of the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention s evidence-based Cure Violence program, a cutting-edge gun violence prevention model that aims to reduce and prevent shootings through the use of public health strategies.

S.O.S. Bronx is seeking a Program Assistant. Reporting to the Deputy Project Director, the Program Assistant will provide support to S.O.S. Bronx Cure Violence and other S.O.S. Bronx Programs (Youth Council, AGVEYP, SYEP, D.O.E. ACS- Horizon and Close to Home). In addition the Program Assistant will perform administrative and clerical duties along with data collection and drafting monthly program reports.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Research organizations that could provide supportive services to the client population and scheduling meetings with the appropriate individuals at the agencies;
  • Assist with planning community events such as youth festivals, community resource fairs, outreach activities, and shooting responses;
  • Perform phone, email, and in-person outreach prior to responses;
  • Work with Outreach Leadership Team to brainstorm creative ways to engage participants and the community;
  • Prepare promotional materials and giveaways;
  • Write short summaries of events for reporting and program highlights;
  • Research resources, events, and possible partnerships;
  • Update and post to S.O.S. social media outlets as needed;
  • Maintain inventory of S.O.S. promotional material (t-shirts, bags etc.) in the office and at the storage facility;
  • Co-facilitate S.O.S. youth program groups (Youth Council, AGVEYP, SYEP, D.O.E. ACS- Horizon and Close to Home);
  • Assist in creating a curriculum for S.O.S. program youth groups;
  • Create flyers for events;
  • Attend staff meetings, team meetings and project planning meetings as needed;
  • Work with S.O.S. Bronx leadership to complete program reports;
  • Perform other program duties as needed.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor s degree and one-two years in a related area, preferably experience working with youth program development and community organizing. Candidates with direct experience working with young people living in urban settings are strongly encouraged to apply. Personal or professional experience with issues of gun violence preferred, but not required. MUST be able to work evenings and weekends. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs required.Ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks and provide timely updates to supervisor.

Position Type: Full-time, flexible schedule, some evenings and weekends

Compensation: Salary range starts at 40k and is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
